Bulldog and the scissors
Bulldog and the scissors H&S module
A week earlier, a – nameless - member of the admin team was opening a box of printing paper, using a pair of scissors to cut the plastic ribbon. This member of staff was cursed with mishaps so far and it was no great surprise when they managed to get a small cut on the index finger. A small spot of blood was spilt on a napkin and a plaster was quickly administered.
“It’ll have to go in the book!” the office manager fretted.
In that book, the incident sat, until the following spring, when an auditor, bored by the perfection of the audit so far, found the incident had not been followed up.
“Not only did this cause a health and safety hazard, but there’s no evidence of a follow-up,” grimaced the auditor.
“Fortunately, the member of staff survived,” the manager awkwardly joked.
“None-the less,” insisted the auditor, “…we need to see the matter was death with.
“…Of course…! of course, it will be,” a nervous manager assured.
A few weeks later, the company health and safety ‘expert’ was despatched to our little branch.
“Bulldog is on his way!”
Bulldog is what he was called, but that wasn’t his name. In fact, he didn’t like being called Bulldog. But, on a training course, many years before, an attendee called him it during a disagreement, and it stuck. No one remembers what the altercation was about, but everyone remembers Bulldog.
“Remember not to call him Bulldog,” the manager cautioned.
